During Patrick’s first year of travel, the team had a parent vs player game. It was all for fun, but I think it also had a purpose. It gave the parents the opportunity to see what these kids do on the ice. We can yell and cheer from the stands, but they are the ones that have to do all the work. It was not as easy as it looked from the stands!
Once the game started; I got to take the face off against Murph, he grabbed the puck and left me standing alone in the circle. I am an OK skater, but once you add all the gear … I was as slow as they come. I did manage to pick up pace as the game went along, and scored three goals (with a bit of help from my friends).
I was officially tagged “Hat Trick Patrick’s Mom” after that. It was the best thing Murph and I did together. I now truly have a deep appreciation for Patrick once he puts on his gear and steps onto the ice.
