Murph and VanMurph from Florida

When I lived in Florida; I remember seeing VanMurph, a hockey fan at the Florida Panthers games ringing his cowbell!! I was so excited when I saw him in the stands at the Coyotes game last night in Phoenix. My dad yelled “Murph” and he came over to talk to us.

VanMurph (as he is know) has his own blog on the Panthers website.  He is so lucky to be able to follow the Panthers during home games and on the road when he is not working as a pilot.

Our tickets were awesome! They were right next to the Panthers tunnel and I got to see the players up close and hit their hands when they came on and off the ice. I made a sign for Villa Peltonen and their security guard gave it to him. It was so cool to see Olli Jokinen and Nathan Horton take a face off against one another; they were chatting and both had big smiles on their faces.

The game did not end too well for the Florida Panthers 4-1; but it was so awesome to see them in Phoenix last night.

JR for Halloween

My new San Jose Sharks jersey came in the mail last week; just in time for me to be Jeremy Roenick for Halloween! The jersey, my hockey gear and some hair gel and I was all set for a night of collecting candy.

I got a lot of compliments on my hair! There are a lot of Roenick fans in my neighborhood, and they gave me extra candy for my costume. It was fun being JR for a night!

I will be wearing my jersey again in November, when I attend a Shark’s game in San Jose.  I am looking forward to seeing Jeremy do his thing on the ice!

From the Drop, to the Stop, Do Not Quit!

I watch my In the Crease DVD, almost every day!

My favorite part is when the Coach Mike Lewis is motivating the California Wave players in the locker room. “From the drop, to the stop, do not quit! Get it in your hearts, get it in your minds, from this day forward guys we roll!”

I played Sunday’s game at Polar Ice Gilbert, against the Tucson Stampede Squirt B team with this quote stuck in my head. It worked out really well for me. I had a total of 4 points with 2 goals and 2 assists. One of our centers was sick and I played every other shift; I was really in the game, I set up plays, made passes and had a handful of shots on goal. I was motivated!!

My Coach told us after that game that it was the first time in the Sonoran Youth Hockey League that a Mite Team had beaten a Squirt Team. Pretty Impressive for a bunch of Mite A Players. The final score was 7-4.

Some Highlights from the game:

Hockey Weekend

I am looking forward to playing some good hockey this weekend.  The Jr. Coyotes play our first Squirt B games this weekend.  We have practiced a lot and have worked hard together, but now we get to play competitive hockey.  I am very excited because one of the games is at the new Gilbert Rink.  Saturday my game against Peoria starts at 8:20 a.m., so I have to wake up early to be in Scottsdale on time for the game at the Ice Den.  Sunday’s game is at 10:10 a.m. at Polar Ice in Gilbert, which is a quick ride from my house.

I have worked hard this week, and have one last private lesson today to prepare for my weekend!  If you get a chance, come and see me play.

Holly Harrington & Power Skaters

Holly Harrington teaches Power Skating Classes around Arizona. She is really tough! I learn so much from her and really like going to her classes. Although, they are really hard work. Holly is sometimes tough on us on the ice, but she wants us to be better skaters.

On Monday night, I went to the Gilbert rink; I did not know anyone there, but made some new friends. At the end of class, she let us have a game.

My friend and I wore our “I love power skating with Holly Harrington” stickers to class on Tuesday night. She laughed and made the class look at our hearts. She moved both of us to the front of the line and used us as coaching examples. Tuesday, I learned a lot of new stuff. I always leave her class sweating!

Power Skating is so important, I am glad that I have a great instructor to work with and it is fun to do it with hockey friends.
