2012 Phoenix President’s Day Hockey Inventational

The Phoenix President’s Day Hockey Invitational is one of the best run hockey tournaments that I have ever played in, and it’s close to home!  There are 134 teams participating and 38 of them are coming from Canada.  Not only do we play hockey in Arizona, we have awesome weather this time of year.  Three of the teams the DYHA Firebirds will face are from Canada, starting with the Langley Eagles, from BC on Friday.  Then on Saturday morning we face the Springbank PW 2 Predators from Calgary and early Sunday morning we meet the Sunshine Coast Blues, also from BC.  Sunday night we play the West Valley Wolves from CA.

I’m looking forward to a weekend packed full of competitive hockey!  If you want to follow a teams progress in the tourney, click HERE to get text updates.

Training at Chandler MMA with the Master!

I have been working out at Chandler MMA for a little over a month.  In the beginning it was really hard, and my muscles hurt bad!  Now that I have a routine and I’ve been going regularly, I feel stronger!

Murph working out with Master McGowan

Working out with Master McGowan twice a week, has also given me more confidence.  I am doing exercises that will also help me in hockey, I use weights to mimic my face-off and I’m working on that explosive first three steps, while building stronger muscles!

Training is another part to being successful in hockey and if you put in the time, you will see results!  Master McGowan trains out of Polar Ice Chandler, he inspires me to keep working hard, go see him and he will inspire you too!

Murph Goes Pink for DYHA Game – Ends in 3-3 Tie

Playing House Hockey for the Summer

Jr. Coyotes finish 2-2 in Coyote Cup

My team won 2 games in the Coyote Cup Tournament.  The first game vs Vosha Mustangs (7-2) and another against the Phoenix Firebirds (7-0).  We lost to the San Diego Oilers (4-0) and the Peoria Roadrunners (7-4).  We played a good game in our two losses, but it was not enough to win.  Our team ranked 5th in the tournament.

Murph & Pop Pop

In the game against the Roadrunners; I got called for a tripping penalty, but I stopped a breakaway.  The Red Line did great in this tournament and together we had nine goals.  Here are the Squirt B Division Rankings.

This tournament meant a lot to me because my Pop Pop was able to watch me play hockey as a Jr. Coyote.

Shout Out to my Hockey friend Powers

During my summer house season on the Saints; we had a new player join the team.  I greeted Jake in the locker room, and told him if he needed anything during the game, I would help him.  My mom suggested to his mom that he check out the Tuesday night power skating class at Chandler Polar Ice.  He attended power skating weekly.  His game improved so much; that by the end of the season, he was making plays and contributing toward scoring.  One thing Powers has it determination!

Powers is playing house again for his second season.  He started the preseason off with a bang.  His team lost 3-2, but those two goals were his.  He was the game winning MVP and got the game puck!  When I heard the news, I had to call and congratulate him.  Awesome job Powers!  Look forward to playing with you again.  See you at Power Skating!  Murph
