Dusty Collins and Jr. Coyotes

The Jr. Coyotes blue line and one of our defense players attended a private hockey lesson earlier today with Dusty Collins at Oceanside Ice Arena. Dusty is the only native-Arizonan to be drafted into the National Hockey League.  Dusty played for the Phoenix Coyotes  (NHL) AA affiliate, The Arizona Sun Dogs in the Central Hockey League.

It was a great practice and he is so nice. He gave us a really good work out, and had great drills. We will be working with Dusty once a week until the end of September when he leaves for the San Antonio Rampage. Good Luck Dusty!!

San Jose Silver Sticks Tournament for Thanksgiving

Our team has just confirmed that we are heading to San Jose, CA for Thanksgiving.  We will be participating in the Silver Sticks Mite A Regional Qualifier from November 27th ~ 30th.  This will be my first Regional Tournament with the hopes of attending the Nationals in St. Clair Shores, MI in January 2009.  It is there that we would play against the best teams in the US and Canada.  I am taking the trip with my dad, I can’t wait to play hockey in San Jose!

My Coach is really excited about taking our team to San Jose.  We have been working very hard at practice in order to prepare for November.  Going to San Jose will be a great experience for the Mite A Jr. Coyotes and something we will never forget.

My main focus will be the Regional Tournament but I am so excited to have tickets to the San Jose Sharks game while I am there.  I am looking forward to seeing Jeremy Roenick and Joe Thornton work their magic!  They are a true inspiration to any hockey player.

Gilbert Polar Ice Opening this weekend!

I have Jr. Coyotes practice really early on Saturday morning (YAWN).  But when I finish, I am heading to Gilbert to check out the newest ice rink in the valley … Gilbert Polar Ice.  They will be laying the ice this Thursday … how cool is that!  The rink is on track to open with a party on September 13th.  They will have some players from the Phoenix Coyotes there to celebrate the opening.  I hope to see you there.

I’m a member of Hockey Star

One of my Jr. Coyotes teammates sent me a link and asked me to join Hockey Star.  I clicked the link and checked it out.  It is just starting up, but it looks like a great place to chat with hockey friends and also make some new hockey friends.

If you want to join the group, email me murphhockey at gmail dot com and I will send you an invite.

Labor Day Tournament Champs!

We are the Champions … my friends!! I had so much fun this weekend. It is nice to start the season off with a banner. Our team looked like champs playing together. Our goalie did not see much action from the Polar Bears or Roadrunners, but held them off when he did. The Jr. Coyotes had an incredible amount of shots on goal, and posted a lot of goals on the score sheet. I did contribute with a good amount of goals and assists.

It was great hanging out with my teammates and getting to know them. I have a lot of new friends on the Jr. Coyotes and they are really cool. We ate at some great places and got along really well.

I thank my parents for taking me back and forth to the games this weekend. They love to watch hockey. It was cool that my sisters were there cheering for me today! Our Coaches lead us to a victory and it felt really good!

Face Off with a Friend

I spent the entire summer playing on the same team as Jacob. Now that summer is over and we are both on different teams, I was taking a face off against him in the Labor Day Tournament. He gave me a hockey hit when he entered the face off circle. Jacob is a good friend and a leader on the Polar Bears team. I thought he was going to get a goal, he had a few chances to move the puck on a break away. He never stopped trying.

I am looking forward to seeing him again on the ice.
