Hockey Lessons with XPro Hockey

Alex Hicks working with Murph

For the past few years, I have been taking lessons with John Kosobud and Alex Hicks at Oceanside Ice Arena in Tempe.  Their hockey lessons are fun, fast paced and nonstop movement!  They work on inside & outside edges, puck control, puck protection, quick feet and so much more.  Their hockey drills have helped me improve my game.  Coach John and Coach Alex are such good people!

Hicks and Kosobud are ex-professional hockey players, they have created XPro Hockey.  If you need to work on anything to improve your game of hockey, they will help you succeed!

Summer Hockey Camps/Clinics

There is so much to do this summer, especially if you want to play hockey.  I will be attending the Collins Hockey Camp in July at Oceanside Ice Arena in Tempe.  Oceanside has some great things going on this summer, Mark Ciaccio Power Skating Skill Development Camp is June 1-5th and  Brock Ballard’s Evolution of Hockey Day Camp.  Mark Ciaccio will also be at the Alltel Ice Den in Scottsdale, June 8-12th

I also recommend, Kurt Goar’s Big City Summer Hockey Camp at Polar Ice Gilbert, I have attend Big City and Kurt is a awesome Coach.

Holly Harrington & Power Skaters

Holly Harrington teaches Power Skating Classes around Arizona. She is really tough! I learn so much from her and really like going to her classes. Although, they are really hard work. Holly is sometimes tough on us on the ice, but she wants us to be better skaters.

On Monday night, I went to the Gilbert rink; I did not know anyone there, but made some new friends. At the end of class, she let us have a game.

My friend and I wore our “I love power skating with Holly Harrington” stickers to class on Tuesday night. She laughed and made the class look at our hearts. She moved both of us to the front of the line and used us as coaching examples. Tuesday, I learned a lot of new stuff. I always leave her class sweating!

Power Skating is so important, I am glad that I have a great instructor to work with and it is fun to do it with hockey friends.

Shout Out to my Hockey friend Powers

During my summer house season on the Saints; we had a new player join the team.  I greeted Jake in the locker room, and told him if he needed anything during the game, I would help him.  My mom suggested to his mom that he check out the Tuesday night power skating class at Chandler Polar Ice.  He attended power skating weekly.  His game improved so much; that by the end of the season, he was making plays and contributing toward scoring.  One thing Powers has it determination!

Powers is playing house again for his second season.  He started the preseason off with a bang.  His team lost 3-2, but those two goals were his.  He was the game winning MVP and got the game puck!  When I heard the news, I had to call and congratulate him.  Awesome job Powers!  Look forward to playing with you again.  See you at Power Skating!  Murph

Importance of Skating Skills Graeme Townshend

Listen to the NHL San Jose Sharks Skating & Skills Coach Graeme Townshend explain the importance of working on skating skills when you are young.  Graeme says “skating is to hockey as putting is to golf”.  Tiger Woods spends time perfecting his putt; hockey players need to take time perfecting the art of skating!

In a nutshell; this Coach sums up the importance of not neglecting your skating skills!  I attend a couple of power skating sessions a week.  I can tell you from my experience that power skating class, in addition to your regular team practices, really does pay off.

Power Skating with Holly Harrington

I am back skating at Polar Ice on Tuesday nights.  I started Power Skating weekly at the Polar Ice rink in Chandler when I was four.  I went almost every week for three years (I went to Florida for a year).  Holly Harrington is now the Power Skating Instructor.  She is tough but she is one on the best in the Valley.  My first Travel Hockey Coach from the Polar Bears, Tim Hedquist told me when I first started playing hockey that if I wanted to be a great hockey player, I needed to be a great skater first.

I tell new players that are just starting out and want to play travel, they really need to work on skating in addition to regular practice.  The best place to become a better skater is at a weekly power skating class.
