Phoenix Polar Bears Come up Short

IMG_0598I had a full weekend of hockey. I played in four games in two days for the Polar Bears. We played teams from Anaheim, Vancouver BC and San Diego. Our last game today was against the Vancouver Winterhawks. We played the Winterhawks tough, through the second period.

In the third we let up a couple of goals and eventually lost 5-2.  Tough weekend!!

Our next tournament will be in Scottsdale over Christmas Break.  Until then its practice! practice! practice! and a few Sonora League games and scrimmages to play in the next few weeks.

Yesterday, my teammates Logan, Trent and I  had lunch and watched a tournament hockey game at Jobing.com Arena.  Some of the teams were lucky to play on the Coyotes ice before they took on the Dallas Stars last night (and WON)!!

I am going to sleep in tomorrow, wish I was playing hockey!

My Mom just finished up putting together a few videos from last year when I played for the Jr. Coyotes. Here is a video from one of the Silver Stick Games at the St. Clair Shores Civic Center in Michigan.

Thanks Mom!

Polar Bears Back on the Ice Today!

We hit the ice today for a scrimmage against the DYHA Squirt AA team.  I love playing those guys.  I have lots of friends on the DYHA team and I have worked with Coaches Alex Hicks and John Kosobud over the summer.  Totally tough competition!  We tied the first time we played them a few weeks ago.  Today we held them tight in the first period, down by 2.  We IMG_6227 lost it in the end 7-2.

Bad news is that we lost, good news is … we still have a few weeks before the official start of our season, and time to improve!

Back to work …

Practice Totally ROCKED!

There are 11 players from Arizona representing Team Northwest.  We have two hours of ice time each day.  The practices are great.  My Coach Steve Johnson, is the Head Coach for the Fargo Force (USHL), and he played for the UND Fighting Sioux (WCHA).

We had team pictures, with the Canadian Rockies behind us.

The weather has changed today, it was cold and raining.  The weather canceled our hike up Johnston Canyon for today, but we have two more days here to try.  This afternoon, it got colder, darker and started snowing a bit.  YEAH!

Having a great time, wish you were here!  Murph

Murph with his Warrior Syko Stick Wins the Face Off!

Feb 09 2009

I got a new hockey stick for my trip to Michigan. I love this stick. It is a Warrior Syko Grip Jr. Composite Hockey Stick . This is the first Junior Stick I’ve used, it does not have a lot of flex and seems to work really well for me. The guys at Behind the Mask helped me decide on this one and it looks great with the white tape.

The Syko is new to the market and has great graphics, looks good in photos too!

Response from John Buccigross of ESPN.com regarding an email he got from a Squirt Hockey Coach.

Bucci,

I have to give some words of wisdom to our squirt hockey team and am not the goodest writer in the world. ;) Any ideas to pass on to the boys?

Hockey is important because everything and every moment is important in life.

It’s important to be a good student.
It’s important to treat your parents with respect and love.
It’s important to be a loyal friend.
It’s important to laugh.
It’s important to have good manners.
It’s important to wash your hands.
It’s important to floss.
It’s important to keep your concentration.
It’s important to eat well and get enough sleep.
It’s important to create the ideal playlist on your iPod.
It’s important to get the high score on Guitar Hero.
It’s important to raise money for charity.
It’s important to hold hands in parking lots.

It’s also important to pass the puck ahead to the open teammate, to try to win every face off, to crash the net, to bear down for loose pucks around the crease, to lead with your stick, to compete with smarts and heart, and encourage and push each other. It’s important not to hit people from behind, not to kick, and to keep your stick on the ice. Hockey is important because every second of life is important. Right now is important. Right now is the only thing that matters. Do it right and do it now.
